Outlook Express removes all access to email attachments

Hello,

I have Windows 98 and have recently updated the system
with all patches from Microsoft. I have Internet Explorer
6.0 and Outlook Express 6.

Does anyone know if IE and OE have incompatibilites with
Windows 98. Or does anyone know if any of the security
patches could have casued OE to remove the access to the
attachments? Any settings I should look at....

Regards,
Chris

Chris,

Try looking on Microsoft's web site under "Support", "Knowledgebase".
Internet Explorer Service Pack 1 "patched" the problem of executable files
spreading viruses like wildfire. Here is the URL for the fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329570&Product=oex.
After 'fixing' the attachment access problem, be careful on whose attachments
you open or save. Hope this helps. For those that have the same problem
with regular Outlook, there are different steps that entail editing the
registry.

in regular Outlook, check Knowledgebase for the workaround. There is a
"List1" of bad file extensions that will have to be modified in the registry
(you tell Outlook which file extension to let through; you don't edit the
real list).

Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup. Hint: Tools>Options>Security.
