Have a new computer and am trying to d/l newsgroups. My newsgroups account is
set up correctly. When I click on newsgroups I get this error message: "480
authorization required." I can't find anything about this in the KBs.
Suggestions?

What news server are you using? Are you using the Microsoft server
directly or your ISP's? Your ISP will usually require
username/password. Microsoft's server does not. Use
msnews.microsoft.com.

the ISP's news server doesn't /normally/ need authentication - at least
that's the situation in the UK, as long as you are acessing it through the
ISP and not through some other account.......

It depends on the ISP here. For instance, here in California (which some
say is in the U.S. but I have my doubts) Comcast doesn't have its own
servers but has an agreement with Giganews. It requires authorization.
When I had AT&T before Comcast bought it, they had their own news
servers but you had to authenticate with your AT&T username/password.
