newsgroups outlook express

When I go to open a newsgroup I get this error message
Can someone help me resolve this?

You have the server wrong. It should be:
msnews.microsoft.com

news. whatever you isp tells you to use .com
not necessarily msnews.microsoft.com
mine is news.tds.net

mine is news.tds.net

But anybody can use msnews.microsoft.com. It hosts all the
microsoft.public.* groups.

You can use your isps server or the ms server. You will get better results
when using the ms servers as some isp server don't carry all the groups and
replication from the ms servers some times leaves you missing posts on your
isp server that you would see on the ms server. Plus not all isps give their
users newsgroup server access. For many its an extra charge. Using the free
ms servers is usually the best way. I used my isp server for a bit and it
was faster but it was missing posts.

I said that because the poster said open newsgroups, not ms groups. the
first response seemed to imply that msnews was what needed to be entered.
for only ms groups this is true, but not for all groups.
