Outlook Express (error when sending mail)

B

Bill Bowden

I tried to setup a mail account in outlook express and I do receive
email but cannot reply to the messages. I get an error described
below.

What changes can I make to send replies to email?

"The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'ATT', Server:
'140.174.104.145', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E"

Thanks,

-Bill

ATT is now Yahoo mail. Because of this, you need to make some changes
to the pop3 and smtp servers. I can't find a link to it because I'm not
a member, but if you go to Web Mail, you should be directed to that area.

Um, so what makes you think this is a mail server? Reverse lookup shows
its IP name as bowdenshobbycircuits.info. Go to your e-mail provider's
web help pages and use THEIR parameters to define an e-mail account in
Outlook Express.

Try changing port:25 to 587 .

Try changing port:25 to 587 .

Yes, that was one mistake, port 587 works better but generated other
errors, and I got this error (in part):

"Server Response: '553 sorry, relaying denied from your location
[4.131.131.157] (#5.7.1)', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

So, I called AT&T support and they said the problem is I am using a
major spam source for my internet connection (ISP at copper.net) and
so my outgoing mail was blocked because it was being relayed from a
major spam source.
They looked up my location at [4.131.131.157] and found it listed on
several blacklists in www.MXtoolbox.com.

So, next I called support at Copper.Net (my ISP) and explained their
service was blacklisted on many lists and I was having trouble sending
email, (what can I do?)

The techie was good at his job and suggested simply changing the
outgoing server to their settings (mail.copper.net) and they would
send the mail, and I could receive it at AT&T.

Worked good, no more problems, but I still feel like a spammer using
their service.

Thanks, a couple other questions if you have time. I'm a new user to
Outlook Express and set up one account which works ok, but I'm having
trouble replying to messages without using my master account
(undesireable).

Seems everything I reply to carries the same outgoing master account
address, even though I'm replying to a message addressed to one of my
alias addresses.

All incoming messages for three different addresses appear on the same
page, but all my replies are sent using the same master account.

Very confused,

Think I fixed it. There was a check box (requires authorization) that
wasn't checked. Then I entered the ID and password and the alias
addresses seem to work.

All these new little details. Life used to be so simple.
