I have heard that email is still on your computer even after you've deleted
it. Is this true, and if so, how do I delete them completely from my system??

All data is still on the PC after it is deleted, you just need appropriate
software to recover the data.
There are a number of free eraser tools on the web, they basically write
lots of zero's to the unused space on your sys.
When deleting email, ensure you permenently delete, within your mail app,
then run the Compact tool in your mail app.
However unless you are doing things you should'nt why be paranoid?
And of course if your that paranoid remember various Governments are
implimenting security measures that require ISP's to keep data for xx months

Thanks for the info. I'm not doing anything I shouldn't be, I just wanted to
know for my own information.

In Outlook Express, you must:

Empty the "Deleted Items" folder: Right-click on the folder and select
the "Empty..." item.

"Compact" the folders: Go to File | Folder | Compact All Folders. If
you get a dialogue box that says the 'folder is in use' or similar, close
OE, re-open it, and select "Compact" again.

That will delete them well enough for casual use. For another step of
surety, Defragment the hard disks afterward. That is about as secure as you
can get without getting into forensic free-space wipers, etc.
