Outlook Express 6 not able to delete items in the sent items folder

Can some one help me out by telling me hoe to delete the
sent messages in the sent items folder. I have done all of
the standard deletion techniques and they will not go away
or the computer locks up. I am sure this is effecting my
memory being low so please help.

OS: Windows 98SE
