Someone told me that I must change from OE to Window Live mail because OE is
no longer being supprted by Microsoft.... Is this true or not?
Not true. MS Outlook Express is no longer being developed. It will be
supported, after a fashion, for as long as MSFT supports Windows XP. It will
probably work "forever", with a single exception.
What is changing is Hotmail support for client access. Windows Live Hotmail
will cease support for the WebDAV protocol (used for HTTPMail access). It
has been superseded by the DeltaSync protocol.
MS Outlook Express will not be updated to use DeltaSync for HTTPMail access,
so connecting to Hotmail servers from MSOE will be broken after June 30,
2008. Forever.
NNTP, POP3, IMAP, and SMTP access in MSOE will continue to work for as long
as they are used on the Internet. Which will probably be...forever.
If you need HTTPMail access to any Windows Live accounts, the only way that
will happen is with DeltaSync capable clients. I know of only two:
Windows Live Mail
Outlook Connector (works only with OL2003 and OL2007)
