Importing OE data into WLM with format conversion

I am trying to move from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail but the
way WLM import function does it is that it copies all the OE folders
into a separate WLM Imported Folders container in the OE (.dbx) format.
It does not convert the OE dbx data to the WLM format.
Is there a method I could use to move my OE folders and their content to
WLM while the format is also converted, and *without* creating the
separate Imported Folders container? I'd like both the Mail and News
group folders in WLM to look the same as in OE, with all the separate
accounts I have on OE. Has anybody here done this before?

To import messages from OE, you need all of the OE *.dbx files in one
folder. The *.dbx files must not be be Read only.

File > Import > Messages > OE6 > point to the folder.

I am trying to move from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail ...

Windows Live Mail is not a component of Windows XP, and the group
appropriate to WLM is: 'microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop'. There
are a couple very knowledgeable poster there who can help with WLM issues.

Thanks. Since I was asking about some "bridge" process between an
XP-native OE and WLM, I wasn't sure about the best NG to post my
question. But I am willing to try any other group.

Microsoft will tell you all you want to know and then some.

OK, I've done it. Just one question: are Storage Folders in WLM the same
as Local Folders in OE?

Storage folders in WLM are not identical to Local folders in OE, since they
are not local but stored on a remote server. You can create new storage
folders for storing assorted e-mails, photos etc.

Strangely enough I created an Archive folder on WLM for storing
assorted e-mails, photos, etc., and this worked for a while then
"poof" it was empty. Somehow Microsoft emptied it. This really pissed
me off so I went back to OE for my default e-mail. I still use WLM for
some stuff but very little and only for those listed in my address
book. That way I get NO spam or junk mail.

So what's the point in having those separate Storage Folders? I might as
well keep read email in the Inbox that contains info I might find useful
later on. I did create a few of my own sub-folders under the Storage
Folder to keep such emails but now I wonder if that will do what I
intended it to do.

Somebody else's machine, server, whatever is no place
to put stuff you want to keep permanently.  The only
folder I keep elsewhere (on my mail server) is my
inbox.  And more than once I've needed to help someone
download all of _that_ when they ran up against their
maximum inbox 100 Mby, into an as-yet-unprocessed
copy in their machine.

I never keep inbox messages for long...always archive them and read
later if necessary. Just don't archive on WLM.

I see. So, if I am disconnected from the Internet, none of the contents of
my Storage folders will be accessible. Have you actually tried this out
yourself?

Actually I was talking about Web-based Hotmail folders, which synchronizes
with WLM. Your "local folders" are of course accessible while offline.
