Outlook error at startup

I’m using Office 2003 on a Windows XP laptop. All available critical updates
and patches applied. Usually runs very stably. Lately, I get the following
error message when ever I restart my computer and open Outlook: “The data
file ‘Personal Folders’ was not closed properly. This file is being checked
for problems.†This “check†delays the start of Outlook substantially as my
Personal Folders file is large. When it finally opens it appears to behave
normally and there seems to be no problems in my personal folder file. If I
simply close Outlook and then reopen later without rebooting I don’t get the
error. It only occurs following a reboot. I always close Outlook properly (by
file menu-exit or by clicking the X button). But every time I shut down the
computer and reboot I get this error. Any suggestions on what might be
happening and how I can resolve it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

First of all, is your .PST file in the new Outlook 2003 format, or is it one
you used in a previous version? If the latter, how big is it?
