Outlook Contacts not in Address Book

M

Maverick

I transferred Outlook Contacts from my old computer (XP) to new computer
(Vista) but the Contacts are not showing in Outlook Address Book in the new
computer.

The Contact Folder is visible in the Navigation Bar however when I send a
message, the Contact list is not visible or usable.

I tried Contacts -> Properties -> Outlook Address Book but Contact folder is
not available to add.

I'd sure like some help with this!

This question is answered here on a daily basis. Read it. State what you
tried and what happened. Include mandatory information such as how how you
migrated your data and your Outlook version.

It is the same program - MS Office Pro 2007 (full version not upgraded) -
using MS Easy Transfer program & cable from Windows XP Home Edition 2002 with
SP2 to Windows Vista Home Premium 2007 with SP1.

I followed the directions in Outlook (and on the MS website) for adding
contacts into the Address Book by chosing Contacts - properties - outlook
address book but nothing is showing. The contact file is not there to chose.

Also tried Tools-address book (no choices available).
Tried Tools-Account Settings-Address Books-(It shows Outlook Address Book
-MAPI)
-double click shows nothing there.

All this shows up in the OLD computer.

As posted here daily. You cannot use Microsoft's Transfer utility with
Outlook. It does not work. You now have a corrupt profile. Create a new
Outlook profile and migrate your data using a method that does.

Easy transfer is not designed to transfer Outlook data. You need to create a
new Mail profile (Control Panel-Mail-Show Profiles-Add) and add the existing
pst file to that profile.

Easy transfer worked great for everything (email folders, contacts,
calendar), except i am unable to get my contacts to show up in my address
book.

i have tried to right click "Contacts" and go to properties, but the
selection for "Show this folder as an email address book" is greyed out and i
am unable to click the box.

Somebody help...

Of course. Easy transfer does not work for Outlook and should never be used.
We have warned you about that countless times in this group. The Outlook
profile it creates is corrupt. The address book service does not work and
cannot be repaired. It is a bug that Microsoft apparently is unable or
unwilling to address or acknowledge.
Create a new profile from scratch and configure the address book service
yourself. Methods for doing so have also been posted here countless times.

I just found this group when I had a problem with my address book, so I did
not see your countless warnings about easy transfer...

I tried to create a new profile, but it did not have my emails sorted into,
"deleted items", "inbox" or any of the other email folders I have created.
It just stared to download the thousands of emails from my yahoo account into
my inbox. Is there a way to create a new profile, and still have it use my
exisitng folders, contacts and calendar?

Thanks for your help...

Just "finding" a group in no way prevents you from searching it for the
answer you need. It will take a lot less time than posting a redundant
question and waiting for someone to answer it yet again.
You obviously failed to connect your new profile to your data file. Since
you appear to be unable to search groups, I"ll repost that information:
The file you need is your Personal Folders file (*.pst) It's where all the
mail, calendar, contacts etc are stored.
