Outlook Connector <=> Mobile Synchronisation

Hi All,

Hope this is the right place to start with this - if not, can one of you
learned people please redirect me (as MS won't talk to me without paying mega
bucks!)

Scenario briefly - OL 2007 with OL Connector to [free] Windows Live email.
Works a treat.....

Sony Ericsson P990i phone with SE PC Suite for sync'ing email contacts,
calendar etc. Works a treat......nearly!

The problem I have is that any items that originate in Windows Live end up
with a date of 01/01/1601 when they arrive in the mobile phone. So all
inbound email and any Sent or Calendar items that I enter in native Windows
Live are incorrect in my phone.

Items in Outlook show correctly, so I suspect it is soemthing to do with the
contruction of the date field coming from Windows Live that OL2007 can
interpret but the PC Suite can't.

Any suggestions please?

Regards
Simon

Outlook just provided the data - the sync software grabs it and pushes it to
the phone and is the one screwing up the date.

Have you asked in the nokia forums? Very few people here use that software,
while a large percentage in phone forums do. If you don't know where to look
for forums, start at howardforums.com.

Hi Diane,

Thanks for the reply, I understand your thinking but I beg to differ based
on my testing....

Here's two simple scenarios that hopefully demonstrate the issue:-

1. Go into native Windows Live web client. Send a message [to myself].
Arrives in Outlook via Connector. Shows in both Inbox and Sent Items with
correct date/time. Sync with phone, incorrect date on item on phone in both
Sent and Inbox (reset to 01/01/1601).

2. Repeat similar test, but this time create message in Outlook. When
message arrives (via Windows Live and Connector), sync with phone. Results
slightly different. Sent Item has CORRECT date, but Inbox item has 01/01/1601.

My deduction from this is that if the item doesn't come via the Outlook
Connector, then dates sync correctly. If item comes in via Connector then
date gets trashed when sync'ed. (In scenario 2, the Sent item originates in
OL itself, whereas the Inbox item comes in via the Connector.)

Have done another test using OL2007 to a different [type of] mailbox with
same sync software, works perfectly, hence my conclusion that there is
soemthing funny going on with the date field(s) in the Connector. I've read
somewhere that the 01/01/1601 date is one of the values returned by MS
software if the date field is either NULL or invalid. I have thought about
changing date formats (I'm using UK dd/mm/yyyy) on both phone and
Vista/Outlook, but haven't got around to that yet - bit drastic!

Any more thought, comments?

P.S. Best not look in Nokia forums - using a Sony Ericsson device ;)

Sorry about that - I thought it was Nokia's PC suite sync software as an
older version suffered with the date problem (fixed by an update to the
suite in 2007). I wasn't aware Ericsson used the same name for their sync
software - but there are Ericsson forums at howardforums.com too. :) If by
chance both phones use the same base software, check for updates.

There is no setting in outlook, the live connector, or hotmail to change how
the sync software interprets the date fields.
