Outlook hangs when trying to attach files via the
paperclip icon and excel and word hang when moving up
through the directory structure while I am trying
to "open" or "save as". Has anyone come across these
problems and are there any fixes/work arounds? I really
don't want to reinstall 2000!

Thanks

Ian

Is this from local or network drives? If network drives, pure Microsoft
world or are you living in a mixed world of Novell, Unix, .etc and
Microsoft?

FWIW, I've seen Microsoft Office applications hang in the file open/save
dialog and living in a Novell/Microsoft environment. The network redirector
can get confused quite easily. Sometimes upgrading the Novell client to a
later version helps.

We are having the same problem since upgrading from
Office 2000 to 2003 and we are in a pure Windows shop.
We have end users that wait almost a minutes when they
try to save/open a file from within Office applications.
I am also looking for a fix. They only article I've
found on the MS support site makes reference to a similar
problem when using NAVCE version 7x. However, we are
running versions 8x and even 9. Any ideas would be
appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. MS only I'm afraid and it appears
that, when the problem manifests iteself, even going to
my computer and trying to go up a level in the structure
causes the flashlight to appear for a lifetime!

Does this indicate more of an XP problem than Office2003 -
although it has only started since I upgraded to 2003.

Thanks

Ian

Are the servers offering up shares NT4, Windows 2000, or 2003? At the
present time, I could suspect a problem with name resolution, SMB, or really
bad network latency problems (e.g. a device throwing out crap on the network
for that segment).

We are running w2k server and all "seems" to be ok from
what we can see. Accessing files from the network drives
is as fast as it always has been to the bst of my
knowledge.

weird... something is hanging windows explorer. anything in the event logs
that might indicate a problem with hardware (floppy, cdrom, hard drive).
