Outlook 2007 (Version 12.0.4518.1014) - High CPU

Running XP SP2 with all OS updates current
Dell XPS M1710
Intel Dual Core - T7200 @ 2.00Ghz
2.0 GB of RAM
Full licensed version of MS Office Enterprise Edition 2007

When running Outlook 2007 I receive 64% CPU utilization and the program
becomes unresponsive. When I open Outlook in safe mode, the CPU goes down t0
0-1%. Is there a fix for the issue? What functionality doesn't run when in
safe mode?

Thanks,
Rogene

Did you let Windows Desktop Search finish indexing? I know it takes a lot of RAM until it is finished and Outlook can be slowish.

As for safe mode, you don't get your add-ins working and your toolbars revert to basic ones, among other things.

Milly,
In Safe Mode, was WDS *not* operating?
If this is an indication of the overhead of WDS when it first indexes it
must be going to make a bad performance hit even later when it has found all
the files on his computer. He has a top-of-the-line processor and *2Gig RAM*
That's a serious amount of RAM, so I infer that lesser mortals will have a
veeerrrrrrry slow first few days?

I am about to install Office2007. I have been using Beta2, with on- and
off-again WDS support. I found that sometimes the range of search was changed
(narrowed) without my intervention. Here's hoping it's better now.
Thanks for any perspective you can give on WDS inOutlook/Office
