Outlook 2007 POP3 slow- New wrinkle

G

Trying to setup Outlook 2007 on two identical Dell laptops. One is a new
user, the other we transferred files. The new user immediately had the issue
of painfully slow receive at the office. Applied suggestions (extend.dat,
addins, safe mode, etc.) but no change. The one with transferred settings
and pst (about 200MB) initially seemed fine, but was setup using a different
internet connection. When connected to the same connection as the new user
laptop (of course where they'll be used themost), it also exhibits the same
issue about 1 KB/min. download speed if that. All other internet traffic
seems fine. Outlook 2003 works fine at this site.

Any suggestions of what to look for? Are different firewall rules needed
for 2007?

Any help would be appreciated

Make sure you disable feeds and Word as the email editor to see if that
helps. If the user has an OST, delete it to see if that helps too. You may
want to try compacting any PST's as well. Other than that, I'm pretty sure
that I read Microsoft was aware of the problem and was working on it .
It's also likely that someone else may come along with more suggsestions for
you.

outlook 2007 does not have a different editor and even if it did, it
shouldn't affect send/receives.

what type of connection is the problem? are you using a firewall or proxy
server on it?

Running Norton. Disabled it. No change. THe issue is when sitting on a T-1
behind a Cisco 1841. Unless some of the communication moves off port 110,
that shouldn't be an issue. THe ciso is set to allow responses on the
sending port.

Hi Hoov,
Just to make sure I understand correctly, are you saying that both of the
computers are downloading mail very slowly only when they are connected to
the one connection? If this is the case it sounds like you may have some
troubleshooting to do on that connection as opposed to on the client.

Thanks

I believe you are correct, the connection is central to the issue. However,
Outlook 2003 works fine (never been an issue), so what would be the change,
other than the AUTH problem, that is occuring in the pull of pop3 mail in
Outlook 2007? FYI, other internet traffic seems to move with no problem, so
it apears to be protocol specific.

Thanks,

Hoov

I am having the same issue on a shared T1 line. Outlook 2003 receives fine,
but Outlook 2007 is slow or doesn't receive at all. I can browse web pages
and send emails with out an problem.
On the home network send/receive is normal.
