Outlook 2007 Intermittent crashing

My client has a new Dell laptop, XP Professional SP2, with Office 2007
Business Edition. When I configured Outlook on his new laptop, I imported his
..pst file from Outlook 2003. He has his own CRM program so he is not using
the one that comes with this version of Office. In fact, I uninstalled it
with Add/Remove Programs.

Outlook crashes intermittently and he gets a "Restore Active Desktop?"
message.

Here are the error log entries, most of which are too vague to be of use:

Event I.D. 7001
ID:6 Application Name:Microsoft Office Outlook, Application version:
12.0.6023.5000, Microsoft Office Version:120.4518. This session lasted 17368
seconds of active time. The session ended with a crash.

Event I.D. 1002
Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE,version 12.0.6023.5000, hang module hungapp,
version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Event I.D. 5000
EventType officelifeboathang, P1 outlook,exe, P2 12.0.6023.5000, P3
ntdll.dll, P4 5.1.2600.2180, P5 NIL,P6 NIL,P7 NIL, P8 NIL, P9 NIL, P10 NIL.

Event I.D. 1000:
Faulting application outlook.exe, version 12.0.6023.5000, stamp 46574050,
faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault
address 0x0000000.

There are multiples of these errors in the log.

My client reports that this happens once a day but from the log entries it
looks like it happens perhaps twice a week.

What I've tried so far:

I've disabled Symantec e-mail virus scanning.
I've disabled all Outlook add-ins.

It's not easy to work on this one as it's intermittent and he's able to
continue working without a problem---he just has to restart XP and restart
Outlook. Annoying but there's no loss of data.

I've looked in this forum and numerous other online help sites and can't
find the answer to this.
Please let me know the next steps.

I forgot to say that this Outlook is configured as POP3.
