Outlook 2007 categorie colours

Hi,

On my main desktop, I run my master PST file for my email, contacts,
calander etc. When I go on the road, i Copy the pst file and open it up on
the laptop, then move it back to the desktop when i get back.

It was my understanding that with Outlook 2007, the colours associated with
categories are in the actual pst file. However, when i open the PST file on
the laptop, all the colour are all out of wack. Due to lack of time and
really no need, i dont bother to go back in and manually change each
categorie back to the colour it ought to be. Often, multiple categories have
the same colours, so it makes it hard to locate.

Is there a way to fix this?

If you are using Vista as your OS, and if your categories do not get changed
often, it might be worth your trouble to do what I did. You can use WET
(Windows Easy Transfer) to copy the data from the desktop to the notebook.
(You can limit it to just doing Outlook or Office.) That will make all of the
settings for Outlook the same on the notebook.

I think you can install WET on Windows XP, but I'm not sure whether or not
it can be used to perform such a transfer from one XP system to another. It's
primarily designed for transferring data TO Vista, I believe.

And, yeah, I wish Microsoft would just at least allow Outlook users the
capability of transfering EVERYTHING that has to do with Outlook by just
copying the .pst file. It would make life a little easier -- if a bit less
secure -- for those of us who hit the road a lot.

Yes it is also the default. i am running XP SP2 on both desktop and laptop.
Are the colours associated with the pst file or somewhere else in the system?
If the colours are associated with the PST file, should it really matter if
the file is default or not? I could have several PST files that I load, and
the colours/catagories should match. I know with Office 2k3, that the
categories were not copied over, but that had been resolved with office 2007.
All my categories are indeed there, but the colours are all over the map.

That is my experience, too. With a simple .pst file copy the categories are
copied, but the colors are not. With Office 2003 you could have transferred
the Office settings very easily to get your category colors synchronized.
Unfortunately, with Office 2007 the only solution, AFAIK, is W.E.T., and I
don't think you'll be able to use that with XP SP2 on both systems -- though
I'm not absolutely certain about that.

The Master Category List (also with colors) is now stored in the default
calendar. If you copy one PST file and add that to another profile then you
have also copied the categories, but Outlook doesn't pull them over into the
default calendar.

You might try this: Right click on the added PST file's top folder,
properties, Update to color categories.
