Outlook 2007 and set up e-mail account-Does It down load all?

I have MS Office Enterprise 2007 running on Vista Ultimate 64bit computer.

My Outlook is not set up yet. I do not intends to connect my Outlook 2007 to
my ISP server account e-mail.
I attempted to follow the outlook wizard to connect to my Gmail account that
I had for few years.
Put in my wished user name
Typed in my e-mail account Eg: (e-mail address removed)
Entered my Password: xxxxxxx
Re-enterd my password: xxxxxxx

I could see my outlook account being synchronised with the web browser Gmail
account of mine.

I want to know if there is anyway I could avoid all my webbrowser gmail
inbox, outbox, deleted items from being downloaded into my computer hard drive?

I want the convenience of using my outlook 2007 without any of my mails
written or received being stored in my computer Hard Drive but only be
retained in my web browser email account-in my case the Gmail browser
account. Is that possible?

Thank you DL
Could I still formulate/write -mails on the outlook 2007 and utilise posting
it through gmail server without me needing to sign into my gmail account?

Maybe, you would have to do a manual send (I use gmail in Outlook as an imap
account)

PS Did you setup Outlook gmail as an IMAP account, if you used pop setup you
would likely be better off with Imap setup. As Imap the data is syncronised
with your web data, its not removed from your web access
If you are concerned with the amount of free space on your PC, then you need
to consider a larger HD, or external storage

Outlook is an "offline reader" so it will need to download the messages.
Gmail can be configured to keep all the mail online - go into the gmail
account settings (when viewing the account in the browser) and configure it
to keep the mail.

In order to send the messages via the gmail account, Outlook will need to sign
into the gmail SMTP server. There aren't that many SMTP servers left that
don't require logging in.
