OUtlook 2003 With BCM Update 2

I'm using Outlook 2003 with BCM and am having problems sharing the database
with another domain user.

When I add the user and fill in the username and domain, it looks like it is
going to add the user. It lists domain\username in the list of users to share
with, but after I click finish, the domain user disappears.

If I click the Browse button, the only location that it allows me to choose
users from is the local machine. It won't allow me to add domain users.

The account that I'm sharing the database under is a local administrator,
but not a domain admin. The workstation where the DB is located is not using
simple file sharing, but I granted everyone full permission to the directory
as a test, but it didn't help.

Thanks.

I think that's the way BCM sharing works -- it's not dependent on a domain login -- but best to ask in the dedicated microsoft.public.outlook.bcm group.

Sue,
According to everything that I've read, BCM should work with either
workgroup or domain users. As a matter of fact, the following is a direct
quote from the BCM Microsoft Support webcast:

"Sharing needs to be between either local users and computers or domain
users and computers. What that really means is that, ideally, we want all the
users to be either in a work group environment — in other words, no domain
controllers and the machines as part of a workgroup. Or if you do have a
domain — let’s say if you have a small business server, or if you have part
of a larger corporate network — all the machines really should be logged into
the network using domain users.
Sharing works really smoothly in either way, but especially within a domain
environment. It works really well in there."

I'll re-post in the other newsgroup, but it isn't a managed newsgroup, and
there is no managed newsgroup specifically for BCM.

Thanks anyway.

Hello Customer,

From the post log, it seems that you need assistance on BCM. As Sue
suggested, for BCM related issues, we have a dedicated newsgroup:

microsoft.public.outlook.bcm

Please submit your question to that newsgroup, as there is more qualified
pool of respondents who can give you suggestions. Meanwhile, other partners
who visit the newsgroups regularly can either share their knowledge or
learn from your interaction with us.

For your information, you can take a look at the following article which
provides some methods to troubleshoot the shared database on BCM.

How to troubleshoot a shared database in Outlook with Business Contact
Manager Update

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!
I did post the question in the other group, so I'll see what happens.

Again though, it's not, as far as I know, a "managed" newsgroup, so there is
no guaruntee that it will be answered. Part of the reason for being a Plus
subscriber is to have accesss to this level of "free" support with 24 hr.
response.

In a public group, my question may never get answered. I could have saved my
money and posted on any of a number of free newsgroups and took my chances!

I'm very disappointed to be redirected!

Hello Customer,

I truly understand your concern. However, please note that as a part of
the TechNet Plus subscription you do have access to a set of managed
newsgroups. At this time, there is not a newsgroup for BCM. You can
request one to be added by going through the TechNet team at:
https://support.microsoft.com/common/survey.aspx?scid=sw;en;1223&showpage=1&
ws=technet&sd=tech&pa=managednewsgroups

We have also responded to you through the ContactUs web page team and
provided this information that the BCM product is currently not supported
through a TechNet managed newsgroup. If you would like one to be added,
please request it through the link provided above.

At this time you are welcome to post to the public newsgroup for BCM that
has already been suggested here or give support a call to open an incident
for more immediate resolution.

Thank you for your understanding.
