I have 15 XP pro systems running Outlook 2003 (installed
from clientapps of a SBS 2003 server). 13 of 15 run
fine. Two have the following problem:
Open Outlook 2003 - no problem (cached mode is on, .ost
is sync'd, new mail is displayed, all is well.)
Outlook continues to operate flawlessly while open
Close outlook via X in upper-right hand corner. Outlook
appears to close, but icon is left behind by the clock
(and Outlook.exe continues to reside in memory).
Clicking on the icon displays "...Exchange server is not
responding..."
If I create an Outlook profile that accesses a test
exchange account (very little or no mail), the same thing
happens when attempting to exit Outlook. (This is under
the same domain user.)
I have read other postings and cures for this problem. I
have checked the following:
- Word is not the mail editor
- The system does not have any other sync'd devices
(like a PDA)
- WinFax is not installed on this system
No relevant log entries have been made at either the
client XP system or Exchange/2003 server.
I'm stumped.
If the user attempts to reopen Outlook (via clicking on
the desktop icon), it will not open (or report any
error).
If the user kills outlook.exe via task manager, and then
attempts to reopen Outlook - everything works fine.
(And for those who love to "reload", I have removed and
re-installed Outlook 2003 - no help.)
Has anyone experienced this problem first-hand and found
a solution?
