Outlook 2003 mail check

I am running Outlook 2003 on a Windows 2000 platform.
Outlook checks pop mail accounts on startup and is able to receive messages.
On further automatic mail checks it cannot connect to the server, and i have
to restart the program to check for mail.
is there any ay to correct this?
 
Make sure your mail check setting is no less than "Check for mail Every 10
Minutes." Anything less than 10 can cause this because the servers do not
reset properly.
