Outlook 2003 is continously synchronizing. How can I stop it?

Recently I changed a user's Outlook email to use Cached Exchange mode,
and set mail delivery to her mailbox, instead of her personal (.pst)
file. We then moved her old mail to the mailbox, and closed the
personal folder.

In the lower right corner of the Outlook screen, we can see constant
synchronizing of the Outlook account. The messages alternate from "All
Folders are up to date. Connected", "Waiting to update this folder.
Trying to connect". This is not causing functionality problems,
though she said that Outlook once closed without warning, while she was
working on another program.

I found a Microsoft KB article which said where in the registry to
change the syncronization settings, but there was nothing at the given
location. I also installed a new network card, to see if network
problems might be a problem. (No change.) All Windows updates
(Including latest Office service packs) have been installed.

I logged onto the same machine as a different user, and found that
there was no problem with this account.

This company users Exchange Server 2003. The affected machine has had
Outlook upgraded to the present version within the last three years.

Has anyone else seen this problem before? We have another user at a
large utility site who may have the same unresolved problem.

I was able to make the problem go away by renaming the users .ost file,
and restarting Outlook. The .ost file was recreated and the size of
the file dropped by about a GB.
