Outlook 2003 does not start

I have MS Office 2007 together with Outlook 2003 installed on a computer
(Outlook 2007 is not installed as my PDA cannot communicate with the newer
version).
Until today Outlook has had no problems.
After a Microsoft update. Outlook refuses to start with the error message:
"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. MAP132.DLL is corrupt or the...".
Even if I rename MSMAP132.DLL, allowing Outlook to recreate the file,
Outlook succeeds in creating a new file - using an installation program from
Office 2007 (!?) - but - perhaps not surpringly - cannot start.
I should be grateful for any advice as to how to proceed. I need to access
previous mail and the calender.
Many thanks.

I have just solved the problem by detecting and repairing the installation
using the installation CD.

What if I do not have an installation CD? It came with the computer.

Most of the time, preinstalled software can have a repair install performed
without an installation CD. Even if you received no installation CD, the
system restore CD may suffice. There may also be a disk partition containing
CD images so you can create your own installation CDs with a CD-creation
application supplied by the vendor.
