Outlook 2003 - Business Contact Manager

Darcie

I am trying to evaluate the new Business Contact Manager
tool in Outlook 2003. After my upgrade installation is
complete, I recieve a message that says
(paraphrased) "business contact manager doesn't support
Microsof Exchange Server Accounts. . . . you must create
a new profile that doesn't contain a Microsoft Exchange
Server account."

Our network is running:
Exchange 2003
Windows 2003 Server

Oops -- I forgot the questions.

1. If I create a new profile (I am using XP) what will
happen to my current profile? Will I login using the new
profile?

2. What will happen with my current email account? Will
I need to create a new email account?

Maybe I just don't understand what this message really
means. . . . can someone clarify?

Thanks so much. . .

The profile they are talking about is a mail profile, not a Windows profile.

You can create a new profile through Control Panels, Mail Icon.

You cannot have an Exchange SErver account in the profile. It sounds like
you're connected to a corporate Exchange Server. If that's the case, you
need to create a profile that doesn't connect to Exchange (which probably
means it won't have email capabilities).

That said, if you're connected to Exchange Server using cached mode, you can
actually get some unsupported connectvity.

BCM will work with a patch intended to make it work against the Exchange
component of the Small Business Server package. You can find information
about that patch here:

Thank you so much for answering my question. I think
that I will abandon using this tool and just go with
Act!

I really appreciate your taking the time to help me!

You seem to be the only knowledeable person on this topic. THe KB articles are not clear. I donwloaded the patch to allow BCM exchange connection to SBS 2003. Questin is: After installing the patch do you still need two profiles? That makes no sense is not useful in the real world. Even after the patch, I cannot get excahnge connectivity even though I followed the instructions, uninsatlled and reinstalled twice. IF there any better instructions on how to do this

You're in cached mode, right?

You should not need two profiles after you install the patch, but in order
to get BCM to become active again in the SBS profile, you might need to
create a new profile with the SBS account in it. Then when you launch that
profile, BCM should load. You can then delete your other profile.

Thanks Patricia. Cache mode: I may have been ... maybe not. I am running Neo Pro 3.0 beta which is a OUtlook add in . The beta needs to run in the non-cache mode - until the final version. I don't remember when I loaded BCM. Question: does it matter if I am cache mode or not ? I will try your suggestions. thanks again - this is a wonderful forum
