Outlook 2002

I was working on a friend’s computer and installing
Outlook so that they could access their AOL email account
via Outlook. Whenever I would add the IMAP account
information into Outlook, Outlook would create a new set
of folders. When I send/receive the email comes in the new
set of folders and the out-going mail is sent via the
default set of folders.

Is there anyway I can apply the account to the default set
of folders and delete the new set while retaining the
account information so that I can send and receive email?

Yes. That's the way IMAP works.

There is no way. IMAP messages remain in folders on the server. Outlook
creates a local cache that mimics those folders, downloading to the cache
those messages the client reads, but leaving them on the server as well. It
saves time when someone rereads a message because it's already on the local
machine.
