Outlook 2002:Unable to open certain attachments

P

Paul Malbon

Hi,

I have a machine with Outlook 2002. When attachments arrive as an .exe It
gets blocked. I have checked the security and its ok. I have found MS
article q290497 and my registry key that the article refers to looks like
this...

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\security]
"Level1Remove"=".bat;.cmd;.com;.exe;.hlp;.inf;.lnk;.mdb;.pif;.reg;.url;"

So you can see that .exe attachments are allowed. Its also the same when you
try to send a URL direct from a web site, but I think this is a seperate
issue with IE.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Paul

If you select Help | About Microsoft Outlook. Just above the registered
name area there will be a line that reads "security:". Does it say default
or administrator? If it states administrator, then Outlook is centrally
controlled by your corporate network folks.

I am thinking that the mailing part of outlook is a downgrade compared to OE
, and for wich you have to pay for it.

So much security in outlook that it becomes unpractical to use.
