Outlook 2002; security attachment warning, fix NOT working.

Guest

I have Outlook 2002 and have gone thru the steps to edit
the Level1Remove string value in my registry key by
adding for example .pdf;.exe;.doc as acceptable and
allowable attachments to open, however...

I am STILL not able to open the attachments without
saving them first. I get PDF files all day as
attachments, and am getting VERY annoyed that all of the
sudden I am forced to SAVE them before opening them....

Please advise what the fix is, or PLEASE advise what
security patch I should remove (or all?) from my system.
There are several "Windows XP Hotfixes" installed on my
system, please advise which one to remove to get rid of
this annoying "feature."

Thanks -
Kim.

Hi Kim,

I think you've done your best a little too much. Level1Remove downgrades
files that potentially could contain a virus (blocked by default) to Level 2
which means save before opening. However you added safe attachments types to
it so you UPGRADED them to Level 2.

PDF-files and doc-files aren't marked as Level 1 or Level 2 so you can open
them any time in Outlook.

So what you need to do is to remove .pdf;.doc from your Level1Remove value.
