What a novel idea..... the messge reads "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." That is the
error message. Would the error signature be helpful. I will say that this
usually happens when I get a corrupted email. I usually solve it by opeing
Outlook Express and deleting any non recognizable emails and reopening
Outlook. Didn't work this time.

Uh, yes....the error signature with the AppName and ModName info would probably be
appreciated by someone in the Outlook groups if you expect to receive help. You can
also look in Event Viewer for the error info:
Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Event Viewer> Applications.
By any chance, do you have an anti-virus with an email scanner module installed and
active? Email scanners are notorious for corrupting email messages and message
stores, and an email scanner is not necessary to begin with.
Also, if you have a security suite with a "spam killer" or an individual spam killer
utility installed, disable or better yet uninstall the spam killer module or app.
The event viewer has the following information: "Faulting application
OUTLOOK.EXE, version 9.0.0.6604, faulting module MailMsg.ppl, version
6.0.2.621, fault address 0x00001586". I did disable my anti-virus briefly and
continued to get the same error message.
Temporarily disabling the anti-virus will not un-corrupt a message or message store
that may already have been corrupted by an email scanning module. You have not
stated what anti-virus you use, if an email scanning module is installed and usually
active, or if you have a "spam killer" utility or module installed through any
program.
Have you posted all pertinent info into a new thread in an Outlook group yet?
Since many third party scanning apps that integrate with OL can cause
problems your only method of diagnosing is to completely uninstall the
scanning app, and in some cases use the tool available on that scanning apps
web site to completely remove.
In any case a scanning app that has real time scanning does not need to be
integrated with OL as the real time scanning gives protection any way.
