Outlook 2000: Problem importing a 2003 PST saved as 97 to 2000 for

I'm running Outlook 2000 with SP3 applied:

I'm having no luck importing an outlook PST, which I created as a new data
file in Outlook 2003. I created it as a 97-2000 compatible file.

when I go through the import process, it imports nothing at all... No error
message, just empty folders.

This happens when I import from the local machine OR the server.

Is it possible the file is corrupt? Is there a way of checking?

I've successfully imported the 2003 PST into another PC running Outlook 2003
- No problems there.. Just when trying to import the 97-2000 compatible file
in to Outlook 2000

NEVER import a .pst file in Outlook - use File->Open to access the data and
then use drag and drop. Importing looses important items like recieved
dates, connections between contacts and activities, birthdays in the
calendar, custom forms, etc.

Like Milly said. Moreover, I hope you didn't export to the PST you created.
How did you migrate the items in the Unicode (new format) PST to the ANSI
(old format) PST?

Thanks Brian and Milly...

Brian, I created a new Data File in Outlook 2003, and saved it to the server
rather than the local Outlook folder. I presume this is different to "EXPORT"?

Milly & Brian:

Can you describe "best practice" for Outlook, or point me to some useful
links?

Could you describe the correct way to connect to a PST: is it Tools >>>
Options >>> Mail setup >>> data files?

How about Backup... Is this different to Import/Export? Should I just copy
the PST from the Outlook folder to another location?

Export means using File>Import and Export. It doesn't matter where the
resultant file goes.

Best practice for what operation?

Backup means nothing more than making another copy of your PST for
safekeeping by some means, without actually specifying those means.
Exporting is not the best way because information can be lost in the export
process. Yes, just copy the PST to another location, making sure Outlook is
closed when you do. The tool PFBACKUP from Microsoft can help automate this
process to a degree.
