A friend of mine asked me to have a look at their pc as Outlook crashes after several minutes everytime it is opened. They have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Dr Watson records the following error.

Processor Type: x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4
Windows 2000 Version: 5.0
Current Build: 2195

Registered Organization:
Registered Owner: John

Application exception occurred:
App: (pid=1292)
When: 5/4/2004 @ 12:43:11.796
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

I have not been able to locate anything on Technet or the Knowledgebase, and very little via Google. Any pointers?
TIA

do you have a firewall or virus program running? if so turn them off
and see what happens. are any other programs loaded when outlook is
run? if so unload them and see what happens. when you uninstalled
OL, did you also then delete the folders that OL was in? if not, do
that.

when i uninstall i try and follow this regimen:
- i uninstall from the control panel add/remove software
- i delete the folders that the program was located in. add/remove
doesn't always remove everything.
- i re-boot.
- i run a scan of the pc looking for errors in the registry. i use
Norton System Works but there are a number of useful tools out there.

you might try that and then re-install and see what happens.
