Did anything change (new email address, changed password) on your machine
that would result in this failing? Did it ever work for you? Is your SMTP
the same as your POP3 server (mail.mailserver.com for both).

Everything is the same. Sending mail simply stopped
working unexpectedly. Scanned for viruses. None found.

more information is needed. Do you host your email or does someone else?
Everything is the same on your end, have you confirmed this with whomever
runs your email? If you go to start --> run --> cmd --> telnet
yoursmtpserver.com 25

Are you able to connect?

i actually am trying to connect to the mail server at my
office using an earthlink dial-up connection. i checked
with mis at the office and they say there is nothing on
their end preventing me from sending mail. i wonder if it
has something to do with my earthlink dial-up connection.
no, i cannot connect through telnet.

Your IS Department should resolve this issue for you. Pretty sad you are
having to troubleshoot it on your own. Ok, nothing changed on your end or on
the mail server. I assumed you were using Outlook Express for your client.
Which one is it? Doesn't matter though because you are unable to connect to
port 25 of the mail server. Is your sending and receiving mail server the
same? Are you connecting to an exchange server? After connecting to
earthlink, are you using some sort of vpn? You should probably email me
directly, it would probably be easier that way.

(e-mail address removed)

thanks for your help. i changed my smtp to
mail.earthlink.net and that seemed to work.
