Aaron

Having a problem with an office 03. The inbox is showing new mail messages
but when you browse through the whole inbox there is none there. If you
switch to a different folder and come back to inbox after a few minutes the
messages appear. This seems to be the only way to get the messages to show
up. Any help much apprec.

Hi,

First, I suggest you download all the heads and messages to the local hard
disk.

1. Synchronize your "Inbox" folder. To do this, use one of the following
methods:

- To synchronize your "Inbox" folder, click the "Tools" menu, point to
"Send/Receive", and then click "This Folder".
- To synchronize all your folders that are set up for offline use, click
the "Tools" menu, point to "Send/Receive", and then click "Send and Receive
All". Wait until Outlook 2003 completes the synchronization process before
you continue to the next step.
2. Right-click the "Inbox" folder, and then click "Properties".
3. Click the "General" tab, and then click "Clear Offline Items".
4. Click "OK".
5. Repeat step 1.

If the issue persists, please disable all anti-virus programs installed on
the computer to check the issue again. Sometime, it may cause this issue
either. In addition, you can create a new profile to check the issue again
in order to narrow down the issue.

Here is a useful Knowledge Base article: 829918 How to create a new e-mail
profile in Outlook 2003 -- http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829918

If the issue persists after creating a new profile, I recommend you start
Outlook in Safe Mode. Please follow the steps below:

1. Click Start, click Run, type "outlook.exe -a" without the quotation
marks, and press OK.
2. Check the issue again.

Hope this information helps.

Have a nice day!

Terry Liu

The problem you're having is that the information (called "UDP packets")
that Exchange is sending to notify Outlook of changes to your mailbox is
being blocked by something. Possible culprits are proxy servers, firewalls,
and routers. Have your network administrator look at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815052 and see if
that might be the problem.

I'm puzzled, though, because Outlook 2003 should automatically detect this
situation and compensate for it. In previous versions of Outlook, you could
set the registry values in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q305572 (Outlook
2002) or http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q304849
(Outlook 2000) to cause Outlook to poll Exchange rather than waiting for
notifications. I don't know of equivalent settings in Outlook 2003 - I'll
check with the person responsible for this.
