On the Outlook Today page, in the Calendar section, I see a summary of
future appointments in a certain time span. How can I make this time span
longer?

future appointments in a certain time span. How can I make this time
span longer?

Longer than what? Customize Outlook Today will let you display up to seven
days. If you need more, then use REGEDIT to modify the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Officexx\Outlook\Today\CalDays
to be the value you want. Note that "xx" above reflects your version of
Outlook, which you didn't think important enough to mention.
