Outbox not working properly

Can anyone please help me with an error I get every time I attempt to send a
message through ‘Outlook 2000’? The error states: The messge could not be
sent because it rejected you as the sender. Server response: ‘5305.7.0
authentication Required 22sm 2738827nzn’ (Account:’Gmail’, SMTP Server:
‘smtp.gmail.com’, Error number 0x800ccc78).

Do you have the Outlook set to use SMTP authentication as detailed here:
