I am having trouble sending and receiving e-mails through Outlook 2003.

ERROR MESSAGE #1: Receiving’ reported error (0x8004210A) : ‘The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).â€

ERROR MESSAGE #2: Sending’ reported error (0x8004210B) : ‘The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP).â€

These errors are occurring on all six of my mail accounts, running on
different ISP’s.

My computer has been running perfectly until this morning; no problems in
sending or receiving any e-mail from any account. I noticed that yesterday
evening Microsoft installed 6 automatic updates to my system. Here are the
updates installed last evening:
SQL Server Security Update for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (KB948110)
Office 2003 Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (KB953432)
Windows XP Update for Windows XP (KB951978)
Windows XP Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2008 (KB890830)
Office 2003 Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter
(KB953465)
Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB951748)

I’m guessing that one or more of these updates has triggered this problem
with Outlook receiving and sending e-mails.

Here are a few more details on my computer system:
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service
Pack 3
Outlook Version: Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 (11.8217.8202) SP3; Part of
Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003
Anti-Virus/Firewall Software: Windows Live OneCare Version 2.5.2900.03;
Virus and spyware definition version 1.37.413.0; Firewall policy version:
1.2.32.119

Your assistance is greatly appreciated in helping me out to resolve this
situation. Thanks!

Brian, thank you. Your advice worked perfectly. Thanks, again.

Great. You're welcome. You might try reinstalling the update. Sometimes
it's possible that the update will behave correctly upon a second install.
You can always uninstall it again.

Hi, Brian. Before I had a chance to reinstall the KB953432 update, my system
did it for me automatically early this morning.

Once again, this update completely shut down my ability to send and receive
e-mails from all 6 of my mail accounts. Note: the KB953432 was the only
update that was installed this morning, so I think we have identified the
culprit.

Are you getting reports of anyone else having problems with the update? Any
suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Only because that's how you configured it. I never allow updates to install
automatically. I always wait a few days and research them before accepting
them.

There are quite a few reports of issues with the most recent round of
updates, especially if the PC runs ZoneAlarm as the firewall.

I plan to follow the advice from the thread; to uninstall the Office Update... but need help seeing how to do that.

Control panel > ?

(Really appreciate the help).

Hi Brian,

I can see uninstalling KB953432 this update has helped Beckola but it did
not help me...

So far i have checked about SP3 which is there, try adding reg. key
InetcommCs with dword 1 but did not help...

could you please bring some more light, your every efforts appreciated..

many thanks.
Om.

OM, you might want to start your own thread about this with your own
information. You are replying to a post that is over half a year old and
does not contain any configuration information to work with so it is hard to
determine if you are having the same issues, even when the symptoms are the
same.
