0x8004210A Error

I keep getting the following error:

Task 'Personal Mail - Sending and Receiving' reported error
(0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from
the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

If I close Outlook (2002 SP3), then open it, I collect the mail for
awhile. But once I get the above error, I'm done until I re start
Outlook.

Also, after I get the error, but before I restart Outlook, I go into
email settings and run a test settings. All works fine.

What send/receive polling interval have you set in Outlook? It shouldn't be
more often than 8 - 10 minutes.

Do you have antivirus integrated with Outlook? Is it actively scanning
incoming/outgoing emails? Disable the integration (this may require that you
uninstall, reboot, and reinstall, leaving out the email integration). It's
not required for security anyway since your real time scanner will detect
anything it's been updated for.
