Out of Virtual memory

I received an message like this even though I have tons of free ram and
disk. I looked in Virtual Memory under Control Panel-System
Properties-Performance Options-Advanced and saw that paging file size is set
to "No paging file" and Total paging file size for all drives has 0 MB
currently allocated. I don't know how it got set this way. What should I
do?

Hi Jim,

This error is often caused by having too much memory. Some programs are
written to use only 512. You can change those settings here:
Start/Run/Msconfig/Boot.ini/Advanced Options/Maxmem=512

As for the rest this is norm:

Right Click the My Computer Icon/Properties/Advanced/
Performance/Settings/Advanced/Change. Set Page File to 0, ok your way out
and reboot. Then follow the same procedure and reset the Page File to
System Managed File.

Thanks, Dev and Kelly.

Kelly -- I was unable to set Maxmem to 512. When I checked the Maxmem box a
247 value was supplied and if I changed it then the 247 would reappear when
I tried to apply the 512. So I followed the advice provided in the
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm by Dev. I selected custom size and set
initial to 256 and Max to 768. It works ok so far.
