Out of Memory - message

I am running a sign package to print large files on a wide format printer. It
has been running fine but I have a rather large file to print. File sixe 600
MB. When it tries to format the job it runs out of memory at 2.01 GB (Windows
Task Manager)

My system setup is:
XP Pro (SP 1 with ALL hotfixes, only one left is the upgrade to SP 2)
Biostar Motherboard. (Intel Chipset)
Intel P 4 3.02 GHz Processor (using HT)
1024 MB RAM
80 GB Disk
10/100 NIC

The Page file was set to:
Start Size - 2048 MB
Max Size - 4095 MB

It still gave me the message at 2.01GB that it is out of memory.

So I set the page file setting 'System Managed Size.

Still it runnes out of memory at 2.01GB (Takd Manager)

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get it to use both the
maximum page size and the physical memeory withing the machien which should
give me a size of 5120 MB of memory.

By the way, the OS was reinstalled about 4 weeks ago, so the system should
be running fairly well. I defrag the system ever couple of days. I run
CCleaner to keep everything clean including the registry. I run Microsoft
AntiSpyware Bete which seems to work fine. In all I try and keep the machine
in good working order.

I will be printing large files than this in the near future so I need to
sort this issue out if possible.

Thanks in advance for our help.

PS The reason why I don't upgrade to SP 2 is that some users of the Signlab
software I use have experienced problems and it uses various port to
communicate with the large format printers, cutters and plotters.

Your 4gb virtual address space is divided into two parts. Windows is mapped
into the upper 2GB. Hence you only have 2GB available. There is a switch
that you can install in boot.ini to enable up to 3GB of user space. I don't
have the exact syntax for this switch.

If you do not enable the 3GB switch, you cannot use more than 2GB in the 32
bit version of Windows.

You edit boot.ini to add /3GB to the line invoking XP - for example:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
/fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /3GB

if I was editing mine.
