Hi,
Sorry for the off topic here, but I know a at least a few of you know
what you're doing.
My daughter just took her computer back to school after I'd spent a good
deal of time untrashing the piles of crap she'd allowed to accumulate in
it while she was there last year. She's into downloading music and
managed to get all the spyware stuff associated with such places.
I formatted and reinstalled Win2000pro then I set her up with
cwshredder, spybot AdAware, BHOdemon, HijackThis, ProcessWatcher,
SpywareBlaster, and at least StartCop. The college is providing their
mandatory corporate edition of some anti virus so I'm thinking she's
good to go again.
Well anyway, she wrote tonight that she's again looking for software to
download music and asked me what to use. I'm not the least bit familiar
with what's good and what's not. She's had Blubster most recently but
the school pulled that plug out from under them, and iMesh and Napster
have had their own problems too.
What's something I can fairly safely put on her box that will do the job
and not try to take control from her again?
I also set her up with a second hard drive and Norton Ghost too, so I'm
thinking I'll be able to at least get her backed up before she gets too
committed.
I read something about EarthStation5 being a download/sharing program
that doesn't cost anything or attempt involuntary servitude. Might there
be others worth looking into?
Thanks folks!
