OT: Foxmail users, way to authenticate for outgoing mail?

F

fitwell

Out of all the alternatives for email clients besides Thunderbirds,
which I didn't care for (whereas I love Firefox quite well, despite
some functionality I need to fix), I'm trying out Foxmail. So far, so
good. I'm now receiving mail with it. But I can't send anything. I
went to the forum that is accessible in the help file but it's in some
asian language (I believe Foxmail comes out of Japan, if memory
serves??).

I get this error message when sending:

"Error

SMTP Server reply: 535
Authentical Failed"

I see exactly where to put the authenticating info for the incoming
mail and have done that, but can't see where to put it for outgoing,
which is probably why I can recv but not send.

This is an urgent one. I need to send my resumé to a dozen employment
agencies - the sooner, the better <g> - so hopefully I can figure this
out <phew>.

Thanks.

Hmm, try accounts>properties and click on the mail server bit. There you
can enter the corect smtp details.

Yup, been there, done that. As I said, there is a spot where you can
put in the authentication info for _outgoing_ mail, but _not_ for
incoming.

Looks like I won't be able to use Foxmail with my ISP. It's the only
way I can get anything other than dialup. Unfortunately, Bell Cda has
monopoly still. Those of us who use alternative land and long
distance services still cannot get telephone high speed. I believe
it's Bell not wanting to give up control.

If I could, I'd be back with my old ISP which was super fantastic!

No, whatever gave you that idea?? <vbg> I'm a power user, yes, but
know nothing about technical stuff. I'm a clerk, for pete's sake
<lol>!

<g> In fairness I'm having adress book probs with Foxmail so I've gone back
to Thunderbird.

Do you use SpamPal or Spamhilator? Try turning them off temporarily and try
again.

No, from China
I get this error message when sending:

This issue has been there for *LONG*. I encountered it when I
first installed it 2 years ago and looked for help
*everywhere* (in some places I saw problem got reported but
with no solution). Send a bug report to them and receive no
reply at all (not to mention, no fixes either)!!! Then
recently tried it and same problem + others. I was really
disappointed with the Foxmail's support.

Hi Fitwell,

First question I would ask you at the forum mentioned by Rod:

1. What build of FM are you using?
2. Any security or spam related software in place that would
interfere with FM's authentication? (like something acting as
as a proxy for mail?)
3.I would ask you to send me a screenshot (with obscured user
details) but showing me what your settings are.

At THL-forums we do try to provide answers, we may not always succeed
but I think we have a better chance with the number of visitors/members
we have and a real line to the developers (after some initial problems,
contact is re-established again)... A quick search on the forums
brought me this:

http://www.hazeleger.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=SuppFoxMail;action=d
isplay;num=1083029215;start=7#7

http://www.hazeleger.net/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=SuppFoxMail;action=d
isplay;num=1080147017;start=6#6

(the latter one is about using AVAST! together with FM and SMTP servers
that need authentication)
