Foxmail

After reading in this group about and trying many, many email programs
I've settled on a choice between two. Foxmail and the program that's
built into Mozilla 1.5a.

I like Foxmail because of the Email Express feature. Is there a way
to permanently assign a IP address to someone's account without
entering it every time? My ISP, Comcast, does not deliver about 20%
of my email and this Email Express feature might eliminate this
problem but I can see it would be a pain to have to look up and type
in someone's IP address each time.

Also, can I somehow create local folders so that mail from 3 different
accounts go to the same set of folders?

If this is off topic for this group please direct me to the right
location.

Thank you kindly.

I'm a dope. I figured out the above. It's *my* IP address that I
fill in and leave there.

I can't figure out local folders though.

Thanks for reading this.

After reading Foxmail's help file, it would appear that e-mail express
is for sending only? Is that what you mean? To receive e-mail directly
you'd need to set up a server and Comcast doesn't actually allow
servers on premium accounts. To send mail with e-mail express you put
YOUR dns server address to Foxmail. Do this in Windows
[Start | Run (type: command.com) | (type: ipconfig /all)]
and at the bottom of the display you'll see something like this
example:
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 216.148.227.68
204.127.202.4
Those are the numbers Foxmail is looking for. They never change, at
least they don't change very often. Foxmail should, in fact, already
have those numbers listed, at least when I look at the setting in
Foxmail they are already there. ( [Options | Application Preference...
| Mail Express] )

Looking at Foxmail for the first time here. It's very interesting.
Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the reply. I just did the above and now the Mail Express
feature is working. I didn't have the second number filled in.

Please let me know if you can figure out how to get all your accounts
to download into the same inbox or folders.

Cheers!

Try clicking on "Options>Active Account Property>Other POP3s" then you can
add as many other servers as you need/want to receive mail from.

By doggies that did it. Thanks a lot Stu!

As a side remark...

There are a number of support forums and sites for FoxMail, we host one
at www.hazeleger.net/yabbforum.htm (English) and we also have a list on
that forum with pages and forums in other languages (French, German,
Italian, Spanish)

Making local folders is not that difficult. Right click on the inbox
and select "New Mailbox" from the menu... press [Enter]... done. Keep
in mind that bthe last one is always at the bottom (version 4.2) and
that you cannot reorder them at the moment. Perhaps in the new version
5.0, which is expected to be released any moment!

Hope this Helps

Thanks Dick for the response. After I finally got everything all set
up in Foxmail I discovered that like Eudora, Foxmail is not able to
download the mail from my mail email account. I gave up and
uninstalled it.

You're welcome! Never give up... keep an eye on the FM site, you never
know what the new version will bring! "my mail"... is that some kind of
web based eMail account, or does that provider uses Pop-N-Send?

It's a pop3 and a webmail account. I just use the pop feature.

OK, but if you use the pop3 feature, then why wouldn't FM work for you?
I use it for pop3 acounts and a pop3 version of an account at Hotmail
and the program just works as advertized. Do you need to get your mail
first and then send your mail (that is the Pop-N-Send I was talking
about in the above)? If that is the case then FM won't do the job, but
all standard POP/SMTP transaction can be handled by the program...

I can pop my mail with Outlook and not Foxmail.
I can pop my mail with the program that comes with Mozilla but not
Eudora.
Popfile, Letterbox and Mailwasher will not work.
The Mozilla email program is so buggy that I've had to stay with
Outlook which I was trying to get away from.

You've said "what" but not answered "why" -- if a program works with
pop3 accounts, then it should work for you. If it doesn't, then what
is wrong? What happens?

I have no idea why. I write (e-mail address removed) and they say they
will check into it but apparently don't since this has been going on
since spring.

Programs appear to connect but hang when it tries to get the messages
and finally times out.

Outlook and Mozilla pop the mail with no problems. Nothing else.

Any anti-spam or Anti Virus software active? Could be a port conflict,
you could try to set FM to port 109 (POP2) and then try again!
What version of FM are you using? Currently 4.2 is the most recent!
The program doesn't hang, if you have a traffic indicator in your
systray, you would see that it tries and tries, but that the server
won't respond... then the program will time out after the time,
specified in the settings has passed!!

IMO the problem isn't in FoxMail as much as it is in your provider's
server (in this case mail.com).

Thanks again Dick. I'm convinced that the problem is with
Mailcircuit. The customer service there is *zero*. I won't be
renewing. It's too bad because they provide exactly the service I
wanted. But if it doesn't work and they won't respond ...............

I could not use FM either and it had something to do with my service
provider. I was waiting for a new version but they don't seem to crank them
out that fast. I can see why since it is almost perfect for those it
actually works for.
