Email clients - update.

Well, I've tried quite a few. Sad to say but they're not very good.
I will never complain about my Outlook again as it's the best of the
lot and extremely powerful!

Anywho, here's the list that I've tried so far:

Pegasus - this one had the least features for me and too many
confusing buttons that are non-Windows standard so it never got very
far.

Foxmail - This one is so-so but one of the folders already corrupted.
Annoying habits though.

- It has automatic fields it types in on new msgs that I don't find
helpful (though I'm sure there's probably a way to disable).

- Message display is poor. Font is white until message is
highlighted.

- When clicking on TO box of a sent message, email address does not
pop up.

- couldn't find a way to set up a template like in O2K that will have
an attachment, i.e., my resumé

- worst of all, though, is that it does not list the b.c.c.'s in the
sent message. Granted, in the one I recv, this shouldn't be listed,
but in my copy of the sent msg, it should show this. O2K does that.

- because of corrupt mailbox, I have to ctrl-alt-delete to close
Foxmail

So all in all, Foxmail has been disappointing.

Thunderbird - well, not enough features either. Though, sorry, I
uninstalled it so long ago that I don't remember the issues.

That latest one is the most promising, Calypso. I like how it can
handle multiple accounts easily. The save feature isn't very
comprehensive as once the email is sent, it doesn't keep a saved copy
of the original msg as it was saved. But hope to find a way around
that. It has a "blind copy" feature where if ticked, means that
although you put the email addresses in the TO box, the emails go to
each addressee individually. But the single biggest problem is that I
can recv mail with Calypso just fine, I just can't send. But other
than that, Calypso just might do <g>.

********************

What I guess it boils down to is that I'll have to use one of these
until I can both upgrade my OS to Win2K and then upgrade my office
2000 to 2003 which has Outlook 2003 which does handle multiple
accounts properly.

Cheers!

Hi Fitwell!

Did you by any chance run a disk cleaner program (to remove 0 byte
files, etc)?

If so, test FM again, but make sure the FM folders are excluded from
cleaning!

Hmm, this sounds interesting. Do you have any program can you
recommend, by any chance?

There are the serious issues, though of not displaying b.c.c. names in
sent copy of mail, no access to email of person/organization sent to
by double-clicing (what if I lose email address, only alias shows up),
templates ...

I'm going to check now if there is a forum. Foxmail is the only one
that is sending/receiving mail currently. I just can't configure
Calypso to send as a password authentication is required for sending
and Calypso doesn't seem to do that. I even called my ISP and we
walked through the settings. Granted, I'm no expert, but I have set

Have you found a newsreader programme which doesn't post twice :)

Sorry - could not resist :)

Why not just use Agent as your email programme - the freeware version
does email too, right ?

I find it meets my needs, and has a lot of scope for email and spam
filtering - especially in conjunction with some of the spam proxies -
I use Spampal to good effect

oops - apologies - noticed though that the OP uses the full version -
albeit an older version than current.

Agent works fine for me, but now I am veering oT :)

We stay on topic by mentioning XRay, which is a superb app and the
easist way of sending multiple pops to Agent. It also allows changing
SMTP server on the fly.
The big bonus for Agent users is that it allows filtering on outgoing
headers, so you can have a different 'from' field for mail and news
without jumping through hoops and having occasional accidents.
Highly recommended app.

Any program that will search your disk for 0 byte files in order to
delete them will get you in troubles with FoxMail; we have an extensive
thread dating back to version 4.2 on the forum (if you are interested I
can give you the direct link to it ;-)
There are the serious issues, though of not displaying b.c.c. names in
sent copy of mail, no access to email of person/organization sent to
by double-clicing (what if I lose email address, only alias shows up),
templates ...

Right click on message >>> Show sender information, or right-click >>>
Add to Address Book. BCC information is visible in the source (Ctrl-I,
and in resends), at least in version 5.0.800.0 it is (just checked a
moment ago)

up many email clients in my time, esp. in last couple of weeks <g>.

Comparing eMail clients is a hard job, I agree fully; there are so many
and one will have a nice feature that another misses and vice versa,
but FM is really a very nice and good functioning eMail client, but
there are still a few rough edges to polish, we are fully aware of that!

When I was looking for a replacement for my ever crashing OE 5, I
stopped at Calypso, installed it, couldn't get it to work either and
within two hours it was gone from my system. A shame, it looks quite
good!
Regards
Dick

Gp to the account and choose properties. Go to the mail; server tab and
choose to edit the outgoing mail server. Select the correct smtp server
and choose edit again. Choose the user info tab and select the
authentification method/log-ons there.

I use Calypso (well, Courier actually but that is OT!) with authenticated
SMTP servers with no problem at all.

Yup.

You are asserting that FA does POP and SMTP? The usual requirements of
an email app...

I just had another look - the faq questions on email do not apply to
free agent - I guess youare right.

Yup, been there, done that. It doesn't work because I can't send
mail. I even walked through it with my internet service provider.

Glad it's working for you! <g>

This sounds extremely promising. Thanks, will check it out. If I can
get it to work with O2K, then this will be ideal situation.

p.s., I did go to the O2K addon ng to ask, but no news given re any
app that would work with different accounts properly. O2K doesn't
work well re this worth beans; but apparently, Outlook 2003 does.
However, that would mean an upgrade in OS and Office, which is totally
not possible right now <g>.

Thanks! Will report back.

Hi, just read the other message re this app, so checking it out now.
Thanks!

If you want to try a really good free email client & Spam remover ,
this is very good .

I can look at my mail on the ISP's server , delete ( spam removal ) ,
reply , click on links & if I want it on my comp , click on Move to >
Archive .
Use right click for some of the functions .

You can still leave any other email client installed . Just a matter
of choosing which one you want as default .
