Grrr. Wish these guys would get things right for a change. I'm turning
off auto installs.

No problem here. I'd say your Firefox install is stuffed, or you have a virus.

Mine were OK too. The only one that did fail was 'talk back' is it called.

Fine here too...Updated two machines over the last few days, no
problem at all.

Use MozBackup at least a few times a month
<http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/>
it's quick and painless

and/or

The FF extension:
MR Tech's Local Install
home page:
<http://www.mrtech.com/extensions/local_install/>
official FF extension page:
<https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/421/>

saves your extensions and config local.
a bit of a learning curve for custom settings,
but should work fine on defaults.
make sure the save folder is separate
from your FF profile folder and FF program folder,
just in case.

Agree that Moz backup is a terrific little program and has saved my
emails etc on several occasions, however....

After a recent reload, I updated firefox from 1.0.7 to 1.5, ran Moz
backup to restore profile. All bookmarks and saved passwords were OK,
extensions were not. No problems I thought, as I only use two or three
extensions, easy enough to re-install.

I kept getting message that software installation and java script were
turned off and needed to be activated before extensions could be
installed for 1.5. Problem was, they were ON. I suspect the backup saved
the state of my options at time of backup and I could find no way to
change them.

Someone may have a solution to this, and I'd be more than grateful to
hear it.

Well, I have Firefox set to auto-install & I haven't lost any of my
extensions. Your copy of Firefox might have become corrupted so you
might re-download Firefox.

Also your extensions might not be compatiable with the Firefox 1.5.0.5,
this happens with some extensions.
