OT Win8, Chrome browser, Pop Up windows.

OT The computer my friend lent me was his brother's, an almost new
Win8, EIGHT, Toshiba laptop, running the chrome browser.

I've never seen so many popups. They were so annoying, putting me on
another tab, or covering the whole tap, even if I just put the cursor on
the right scroll raceway it seemed. I could barely get anything done.

The brother is not interested in how computers work so I though maybe I
could help him. If he were using say, Firefox, would there be fewer
popups. Or can he turn them off within the Chrome-browerr.

Or should I go ask on the Win7 ng? I figure I'd be off topic t here
too!

Thanks, and thanks for reading the other two posts too, if you did.

Isn't there a windows 8 newsgroup? I dont know, I never looked????

But I've been told to avoid Chrome. It's made by Google, and suited to
allow them to track users, and who knows what else..... I wont touch
Chrome, so I dont know if it has any popup stopping settings ro
extensions. Firefox has settings as well as extensions to control
popups. Seamonkey isn't all that bad either, it's similar to FF. Even
IE8 is not all that bad. The older versions of IE were horrid, but IE8
is ok. If I were you, I'd dump Chrome, and replace it with Firefox or
Seamonkey. (But like I said, I never tried it, just going on what I
heard about it, which was not favorable).

I don't use Chrome except on Android sometimes. Although I do use
Maxthon v3 which uses both the IE (Trident) and Chrome (WebKit)
rendering engines. As far as I know, Maxthon doesn't include Google's
tracking.
