OSX Leopard

Hey folks

Looking at OSX Leapord http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/ makes me want to
switch to mac apart from the price of the hardware.

If Apple decided to release OSX for any pc (or as close as), do you think
you would ditch widows altogether?

I would like to see how many people would actually take the plunge. As you
can clearly see, with the superb streamline support and all the extras, and
MUCH cheaper software it already slams Vista in the face.

Common folks, be honest, i'm a pc user too, but i have to say that if i
could install this baby, instead of vista, i would be there in a shot!

I don't see it as an either/or

To me it is a both situation and in the fullness of time may upgrade
this computer to a dual core running 32 bit applications already purchased.

I wouldn't... all the software I run on the PC I can get cheaper for the
windows ver than Mac (ie adobe, macromedia, etc) and I wouldn't want to spend
thousands to replace versions I already have. As for all the extras, seems
Vista has a lot of them and MS MediaCenter is still better than Apples'
version although maybe it's improved in Leapord. If I had no PC software of
value then I'd be tempted to take it for a spin.

No. I'm proud to call myself a PC user. Not that I hate Macs, but I grew
up on windows, and to me, leopard looks like a Mac with windows features.
sure, they run a bit smoother, but windows wasn't designed to be smooth...
anyways, next year, and the year after that, there'll be another, better,
improved, $130 OS X version, so why bother?

OK - this may be fruitful, but what has it to do with Vista?

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the sharing, knowledge, views and
opinions but (after all) this is a Vista news group yes?

Now, about these 30" or 23" monitors ...

And a larger game base would help *hint*. I'm so tired of MS's crap. WinXP is
stable, but dear lord, how many freakn' security updates need to be released
to know you screwed up? MS is real lucky that few games get ported to the
mac... I'm sure if the conditions were right, tons of people would switch, I
know I would. MS is just like IBM (30 years ago). They have gotten so
bloated, that they release software for market, regardless if the software
actually works. I predict that MS will kill it's self.... pretty much like
IBM did.

Wait...IBM killed itself? They are still one of the strongest tech
references on the market. I doubt they will ever die, unless some freak of
technology happens and smart servers find a new niche...

He probably meant the OS wars.. IBM in its day had OS/2, the most advanced
and stable system available but fumbled the ball and it's now history. Pity
really, it had stuff that took MS and Apple yrs after to tout as "advances".

OS/2 and the sheer market that IBM had. You don't remember how big IBM was?
Yeah IBM is still around selling propritory systems, but they were the server
gods.

It's good for the youngins to catch up
on some history.

There will be a test. ;-)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS/2
OS/2 is an operating system created by Microsoft and IBM, later developed by IBM exclusively.
The name stands for "Operating System/2", because it was introduced as the preferred operating
system for IBM's "Personal System/2 (PS/2)" line of second-generation Personal Computers. OS/2
is no longer marketed by IBM, and support for OS/2 is scheduled to be discontinued on December
31, 2006.

That's just the value of a piece of paper.

What's Enron's paper worth now?

WorldCom was once "valued" at over $200 billion,
they were bought by Verizon for $7.6 billion.

It's not so great. Time Machine is just Apple catching up with VSS
(finally), and the stuff about running programs by just typing the word in
the search bar is nothing new to us Vista users either. And in the keynote
demo of all of this Jobs had the gall to accuse MS of copying. What a
laugh. It's a nice OS but that's all it is.

It's amazing how some people admit their ignorance yet continue to mouth off
their opinions.

If they ported it I would have it but I just looked at the link and was
very unimpressed. I've been looking at Aero glass and the kinds of
things that can be done with xgl/compiz on Linux and OS/X looks like an
also ran right now. I admit I didn't read the piece in any depth just
looked at the pictures and read the headlines. Far from continuing to be
innovative I'd say they've run out of ideas.
