I use a Microsoft Intellipoint PS/2 Optical Mouse with the
center track wheel. It worked fine with Windows 2000
Professional. Since moving to XP Professional, somewhere
in the past couple of months I began having a devil of a
problem with the mouse freezing up after an hour or so of
use. I have over a Gig of Ram and an AMD Athlon 1.33 GHz
DDR chipset.
After working fine on startup, the mouse begins to act
erratically after an hour or so and then soon just
freezes, as if I am having a memory leak problem. The
mouse uses IRQ12 by itself and device manager shows no
conflicts. This mouse uses the PS/2 USB adaptor to attach
it to the mouse input. I have the latest Intellipoint
drivers and the XP drivers.
I experimented with starting up the Optical mouse plugged
directly into a USB port, but, the same sluggishness and
freezing eventually happened again.
I take the regular XP service packs and security upgrades.
Recently I was hopeful when I saw one Service Pack update
refer to a mouse problem having something to do with USB
conflicts. There has been no improvement in the erractic
mouse problem since installing that Service Pack upgrade.
