Optical Mouse Sticks

I have a Dell cordless optical mouse. Lately it's starting to
"stick". That is, the mouse pointer on the screen doesn't always
move. If my mouse had balls :), I'd clean them. For this mouse I'm
not sure what to do.

I've had it for about three years with no problems. I have Windows
XP. This started two days ago. I have made no software changes in
that time, not even a Windows update.

I have Windows XP.

I also have a Dell corded optical mouse which I use when the batteries
in my cordless need charging. It works fine.

Help.

thanks

The mouse is either dirty (carefully clean the bottom) or needs to be
replaced. They don't last forever.

Is the cordless mouse rechargeable itself, or does it use batteries of some
kind? If the mouse has its rechargeable battery onboard - and it's
non-removeable - perhaps you're experiencing the beginning of the end of the
battery. Over time they lose their ability to hold a charge.

HTH.

I just replaced the rechargeable batteries with brand new ones a
couple of months ago. They were lasting at least 4 weeks. The mouse
is not dead, it just doesn't work smoothly all the time.

As I understand it is a cordless mouse. Cordless mice usually runs on the
2,4Ghz spectrum which is today very overcrowded by other cordless gadgets
(Wifi, Bluetooth, Wireless Keyboard, mouse, camera, audio etc)

Try reconnecting/rejoining you receiver and mouse (usually there will be a
connect button)

Is it possible that some new installation or other radio equipment is
causing interference?

Problem solved. I cleaned it with a mouse cleaning kit. Although the
cleaning solution was supposed to be for mice with balls (this always
cracks me up), it seemed to work well on my optical mouse too.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
