Optical Mouse Problem

Got a USB Packard Bell mouse, model CCO-3U. Xp detects it as a Samsung
model. It's not showing any problems in Device Manager. The dongle that you
put into the USB port is obviously working. After pressing the button on the
dongle the LED flashes and you then press a button on the bottom of the
mouse for the mouse to be detected properly and the LED on the dongle stops
flashing but this is not happening. I've rebooted, reinstalled drivers, put
brand new batteries in the mouse, changed USB ports etc but nothing seems to
do the trick. Anybody know anything else I could try?

TIA

Make sure the "dongle" is elevated, and not resting on anything metal or
electrical (I used a pop can cooler to put mine in)

It's sitting on my wooden desk.

And, you do have it elevated WELL above the wooden desk? My instructions
say it MUST be elevated.

It doesn't even detect the mouse hanging from the usb port on the back of my
PC. I've always used it sitting on the desk, never had this problem before.
It started yesterday by not responding so I assumed the batteries were low,
hence the post earlier.
