Hi,
Dont know if this is the right plase to post but here
goes anyway. My optical mouse remains lit up when
computer switched off. How can I get this to turn off
when I turn off my computer?

Many thanks
Martin

It's the design of the mouse. Nothing you can do about it.

Turn off the mains. Your problem sounds like your hardware doesn't support
it. My Logitech's light does go off.

I have 2 Logitech mice, the MX 700 and the MX 1000.

The MX 700 led will stay on forever, even if the computer is shut off. If
the mouse is placed in the charging tray the LED will go off. If the power
is removed from the charging tray, the LED will be on.

The MX 1000 laser shuts down after 5 seconds - no matter where the mouse is
located.

I've never liked the light in an optical mouse - Do all of them need to
'show' that it's on?

It doesn't matter whether you like the light or not. Optical mice
work using that light and won't work without it. If you don't like
it, go back to a mechanical mice and the joy of cleaning the damn
thing.

Does a light bulb have to show that it's on?

The purpose of this light isn't to illuminate the surroundings - Hence your
analogy is flawed. Forget it - You didn't understand the question anyway.

Optical mouse tracking beam! This should stay in either
the high or low state while the pc is running, never off
completely until the pc is shut down. If it remains on after
the pc is shut down, there is a problem with the mouse's
communication to the receiver or a defect in the mouse
itself. If the beam is pulsing at a one per second rate, the
battery is low and needs replacement.

I know how they work (perhaps better than you actually). I was looking for
something like this
http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/qotd631-led-mice-3.jpg. The bottom half
of mine is completely translucent, and sometimes I like to work on my
computer in the dark.

I'm happy you know how it works, though I know as much if not more
about than you...oh forget it, I don't need to defend here.

If you don't like the way the MS mice or other otpical mice in
question "show" the light, then just get an optical mouse that doesn't
show it. They are out there.

Why are we wasting time debating it?

The motherboard is probably keeping the USB ports powered for wake-up
purposes. Check the BIOS settings and see if there are any settings for
wake-up events associated with USB.
