Optical Mouse Won't Switch Off

Hi , I am running an upgraded XP Pro ( Win98 -> XP ) on my older P3 1 Ghz
system and I have a shutdown problem with my optical mouse in which the
light on the mouse won't go out after I switch off the system.

Up until recently I have been using a P/S2 MS ball wheel mouse and it worked
good , then I upgraded to a P/S2 MS optical wheel mouse which also works
good , but when I go to shutdown the system , the light on the wheel mouse
stays on.

It has to be some type of driver or system problem in XP and not a hardware
problem , because the system is a duel boot system with Linux and when I go
to shut down linux , the light on the wheel mouse goes out like it suppose
to do.

I have installed the IntelliPoint software and driver and I still get the
same problem and the only way to switch off the light for the mouse is to
unplug it from the back of the machine.

My other computer that has the exact same set up of P3 1 Ghz , duel boot
with Linux and an upgrade from Win98 -> XP Pro doesn't have this problem.

Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this problem ?

Thanks.

Just curious, why is it a problem?

It's one of those little annoying problems that happen , and I don't know if
it is causing any damage with the LED staying on all the time.

Unplug the mouse.

And are you sure, really sure, the light in the fridge goes out every time
you close the door?

I have the same thing happen with my Logitech wired mouse. I have had
it for almost 6 years now and it works fine still, I don't think it
will be a problem for you. I find that unless I kill the power to the
computer, USB devices tend to get power even after the computer is
turned off. The light stays on on my webcam also. I shut off the power
to the computer with the power strip after shut down because it also
kills the pump on my water cooling system, and then the light goes off
in the mouse.

Off course the light in the fridge goes off every time I close the door
because I can see that little man in the fridge standing there waiting for
me to close the door so he can switch the light off.

Those fridges are nice, aren't they? I don't see how I lived before
having one ;-)
