Opening PDF files in acrobat 7.0

I recently downloaded adobe acrobat reader 7.08.
When it try to open a pdf file it aways opens in acrobat 5.0, which I also
have on the computer.
Acrobat 5. will not open the file , and I get an error message to upgrade
which I did to 7.0
How do I get 7.0 to open the files , is there something I need to change ?
I am using Window XP Home
Thanks for any help on this . Moe

Why Adobe Acrobat 7.0.8?
Not only is that not the latest adobe acrobat reader, that's not even the
latest reader in the 7.x.x series.

My suggestion...

Control Panel --> Add or Remove programs --> uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Visit http://www.adobe.com/ and download Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1.1...
Install it.

A couple of things come to mind. Uninstall Acrobat 5.0. Version 7.08
should handles legacy .pdf files.

Change your Open With settings to use version 7.08 with all .pdf files.
To do that, open Windows Explorer, select menu Tools->Folder Options,
then File Types tab. The rest is pretty much intuitive.

Hope this helps.

Get rid of the bloat of Acrobat and install Foxit.

Foxit is good except it has a bug that causes it to not work well for
searching, and searching is about the second most important thing I need to
do with PDF files. Foxit searches fast but that does not help when I can't
see what it found. The most important thing I do in a PDF file is copy text
to the clipboard, which has bee really clumsy to do in Foxit. Foxit does
load fast, but if a system's processor is fast enough, I see no advantage to
use of the free version at least.
